BOOK LIBRARY- ECE

Book Library consists of 100s of books useful for GATE and IES preparation, all under one roof.
It will be updated regularly with new books every month.Feel free to comment ,if you need any other materials. We will try to add in more materials available online.

However, please refer only one or two standard text books (as per my previous posts) for studying concepts.Reading a lot of books during GATE preparation will take you nowhere.

GATE 2016,2015,2014 and 2013 ECE RECORD (MARKS,AIR & SCORES)

I have collected the marks, gate scores and all india ranks of many GATE 2016 electronics and communication students which covers various a wide range of  AIRs.I believe that this will be very useful for future gate aspirants on setting a target mark to achieve and also to predict their AIRs in GATE 2017 based on their performance then.

Regarding the Normalisation procedure,

Session 1 (Jan 30 MORNING) : Was allotted with  8 marks due to errors in the GATE ECE paper to all.The normalisation saw an overall increase in the average marks which lead to a negative normalisation of 2-4 marks.

Session 3 (Jan 31 MORNING): It was regarded as the most difficult GATE paper in ECE over past 10 years.Normalisation saw an increase in marks by 9-11 marks.

Session4 (Jan 31 AFTERNOON): The difficulty level was in par with session 1 and normalization did not have much effect on the marks.

Rank Prediction(ECE)

AIR < 30          Marks above 71

AIR < 100        Marks above 66

AIR < 200        Marks above 62

AIR < 500        Marks above 56

GATE PRACTICE PAPERS (ECE/EE/IN)

Practising questions is a must for any gate aspirant.I have collected previous years ECE gate papers which will be very useful for your preparation. Some of the papers have solutions as well.Try to solve them all and discuss the difficult questions with your friends or in facebook gate groups.

GATE 1991 to 2016 Papers are available below.

Here are the GATE ECE PAPERS from NPTEL and GATEFORUM websites.
For Subject Wise and Yearwise Gate papers of ECE,EE,IN,CS,MECH and CIVIL from Nodia & Company,
"Solving lots of problems from previous year GATE papers will help to familiarize with the kind of questions that appear in the exam and will make you more confident on the day of exam. This will also help you in recognising the topics of higher importance".

I have also uploaded  MOCK EXAM papers conducted by various online websites below:

Post Gate Guidance

The confusion one faces after the gate results till the day of admission is very hard to deal with.
Those in top 200 ponder about which course to settle with, while the rest are searching for CCMT and new IITs,IIITs cutoffs and trying to find the best course they could alloted with their gate scores.

I have collected Cutoff details from my friends at IITs,especially from the old IITs and IISc.
Click Here to check out the details.

Ace academy and Made easy had put up post gate materials to their students to help decide better. However, the cutoffs put up by them seem a bit vague and fails to provide correct info.
You can still check out the post gate material below:

1.Made Easy post gate guidance 2016

2.Ace academy post gate 2016

3.CCMT cutoffs by Ace academy (2016)

4.Made easy post gate 2014

IISc also conducts a test/+ interview for a special course "Electronic Systems Engineering" by DESE (formerly known as DESE) every year. Check this link for more details.

IIT-Madras also conducts test/+interview for 3 year MS course in Microelectronics,Analog/digital design, sponsored by Texas Instruments,India.Click here for more details.

Other points to note:

1.IIT delhi  and IIT-Kanpur take students based on interview, in addition to gate score (60-70% weightage) for Mtech seats.

2.IISc conducts test/+interview for Electronics Systems engg. and interview only for Nano science branch.Direct admission is provided to Comm, and Networks,Signal Processing and SSA courses.

3.IIT-Kgp , IIT madras and IIT Bombay allot direct admission for Mtech seats.

4.Interdisciplinary course : "VLSI Design Tools and Technology" is most sought after in IIT Delhi among gate aspirants, which is actually a sponsored program. (TI,cypress, cadence, internal project).

UPDATE : Check out CCMT Seat availability here

Digital Electronics and Microprocessors

Digital Electronics and Microprocessors

Digital Electronics turns out to be the favourite among most students because of  its  more easier to learn and also the type of questions asked in this field are of same/repetitive type,(Eg:one question on 8085 is asked every year ).The weightage it carries varies from 6-8 marks.

Standard Textbooks:

1.Digital Design by Morris Mano

2.Digital Systems and Applications by Ronald Tocci

3.Digital Circuits by Anand Kumar

Since many ask for this text, follow my scribd tutorial here to download it.

Online Materials:

1.ACE printed material

2.MADE-EASY class notes

3.8085 microprocessor notes

4.Previous year problems

Post Gate Guidance : IISc DESE (formerly CEDT) Written Test Questions

Post Gate Guidance : IISc DESE (formerly CEDT) Written Test Questions

I have gathered information from various online and offline sources regarding the pattern and previously asked questions at written test for IISc DESE (formerly CEDT).

Who should Apply?

All ECE students with AIR <  1100 (for obc) and AIR < 500 (gen) may get a call for the written test.

Around 300 students appear for the written test and around 150 are shortlisted for the interview.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD  Written Test Questions

Only around 30-35 students are selected for the course.

In 2016,the written test is conducted on April 18th  9am and results of the same will be published later that day.The interviews will be held over the next 2 days.

Update:

DESE 2016 Written Exam  was conducted on 18th April at Central Lecture Hall,IISc.The question paper consisted of ten 1 mark questions, eight 2 mark and eight 3 mark questions, accounting for a total of 50 marks.

Test Duration : 1.5 hours

Topics covered:

Matrix and Linear algebra (condition for no solution)

Digital electronics(comparators,ADCs,mux)

Communication systems (Pdf and Cdf of uniform distribution,Probability of error of BPSK,FM/PM bandwidth and deviation)

Analog circuits (cmos inverter with src and drain terminals interchanged)

Electronic Devices ( energy band diagram of PIN)

Computer Networks ( ARP,MAC address calculation)

Power Electronics ( Buck and Boost Convertor)

Network Theory ( resistor divider and loading; find current)

Only 127 students were shortlisted for the interview.Click here to see the list.

The interviews for the shortlisted students were conducted over a period of next two days.
Me and murali were shortlisted for the interview, but could not attend the interview.

Post Gate Guidance : IIT Cutoffs

IISc  BANGALORE

The ME courses are now renamed as Mtech from 2016 onwards, hence the seats are likely to double in every course offered as previously IISc used to provide direct admission for ME courses and conduct interview for M tech courses, however this year all seats are likely to be under direct admission category.

1.M Tech  (Microelectronic Systems Direct Admission)

DESE (formerly CEDT) calls AIR upto 500 for interview and screens around 150 people through a written test conducted during the second week of april and  selects 30 people through final interview.

The chances of getting through this course is very high for those who have previously worked in embedded field and with AIR below 450.
